Mario Bertoncini. 27. September 1932 in Rom geboren, gestorben am 19. Januar 2019 in Siena. Komponist, Pianist, musikalischer Konstruktivist; musikalische Studien in Rom (Komposition bei Goffredo Petrassi, Klavier bei Rodolfo Caporali) und in Utrecht (elektro-akustische Musik bei Gottfried Michael Koenig); Tätigkeit als Konzertpianist (u.a. unter Bruno Maderna) und Dirigent; ab 1962 Experimente mit präparierten Instrumenten (QUODLIBET, CIFRE, TUNE, SCRATCH-A-MATIC); 1962 1. Kompositionspreis Nicola d’Atri der Accademia di S. Cecilia für SEI PEZZI per ORCHESTRA; 1965 1. internationaler Preis der Fondation europeènne de la Culture für QUODLIBET; von 1965 bis 1972 Mitglied der Improvisations-Gruppe ›Nuova Consonanza‹; 1970-1972 Präsident der römischen Gesellschaft für Neue Musik ›Nuova Consonanza‹; ab 1968 Musiktheater: theoretische und praktische Arbeit über ein funktionelles Zusammenwirken von Ton und Gestik (›Note per un teatro della realtà‹), SPAZIO-TEMPO Venedig, Biennale 1970; von 1968-1973 Professur am Rossini-Institut in Pesaro; seit Beginn der 70er Jahre: selbstentworfene und -gebaute Klangobjekte, die häufig auf dem Prinzip der Äolsharfe beruhen; 1975-76 ›Musical Design Course‹ an der McGill University Montreal (Gründung der Gruppe MUD, die später unter dem Namen SONDE bekannt wurde); 1974 Einladung nach Berlin (Künstlerstipendium des DAAD); von 1980-1997 Professor an der Hochschule der Künste, Berlin; 1986 Gründung der Gruppe VIE mit der Tänzerin Martina Schaak und Roberto Capanna; im gleichen Jahr Patent für ein System der Übertragung tänzerischer Gesten in Ton (das ›Choreophon‹); später (1992-93): Entwicklung einer Vorrichtung für tiefe Streichintrumente (›Stabdämpfer‹), die u.a. in der Berliner Uraufführung von ELEMENTI DI FORMA 2000 zum Einsatz kam. Neben der eigenen kompositorischen Arbeit verschiedene Auftritte als Konzertpianist und Interpret von Scarlatti über Schönberg und Stravinsky zu Scelsi, Feldman, Cage und Terry Riley und eigenen Bearbeitungen von Werken anderer Komponisten (Earle Brown 4 SYSTEMS; Cage CARTRIDGE MUSIC). 2004 Umzug von Berlin nach Cetona, Italien.
